Habanero Mango Cowboy Candy

I love spicy foods and growing jalapenos in our garden is a way for me to ensure that I always have a steady supply. So with anticipation of spring and summer coming soon, I started thinking of ways to use all those wonderful jalapenos. That’s where cowboy candy or candied jalapenos came to mind.

Cowboy candy is really simple to make and our recipe only requires four ingredients. That’s right only four if you use Life 44 Habanero Mango Seasoning. If you haven’t yet purchased our Habanero Mango Seasoning you should. It goes great on chicken, shrimp and even the rim of your margarita glass. You can simply add 1 tsp granulated garlic, 1/2 tsp cayenne and 1/4 tsp tumeric in place of our seasoning.

A quick tip here… WEAR gloves. This is something I think we all had to learn the hard way. I think many of us have chopped peppers and then rubbed our eyes. Ouch! I have even used the restroom after chopping peppers and… well I learned right then and there to always have gloves on hand. I don’t wish that pain on my enemies.

Habanero Mango Cowboy Candy

Cowboy candy is a great way to use up any extra jalapenos you have sitting around and they taste amazing. Just don't eat them all in one sitting

Ingredients

  • 1 lb jalepenos sliced into 1/4 inch rounds
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Habanero Mango Seasoning

Instructions

  1. Slice jalapenos into about 1/4 inch slices

  2. Add 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar and 1 tbsp Habenero Mango Seasoning to a pot over medium heat and bring to a boil

  3. Once boiling reduce to a simmer until mixture begins to thicken and become like a syrup

  4. Add 1 lb sliced jalapenos and stir to coat the peppers, then simmer for 5 more minutes

  5. Remove peppers to mason jars and fill with the syrup. Allow to cool, then cover and place in the refrigerator.

  6. Allow 1 week before tasting. I know it is hard to wait, but so worth it.

Of course I have to try my cowboy candy the next day. It tasted good but it needed more time. After 8 days it was incredible. The extra heat from the powdered habanero along with the sweetness of the dried mango was incredible.

What can I use them with? Well I ate a lot of them straight from the jar but these would go great on burgers, maybe make a spicy margarita, with a salad. I even added some to my scrambled eggs. They are that good. Your cowboy candy should last about 3 months in the refrigerator but lets not kid each other. They won’t last two weeks.
